Leipzig Book Fair Prize 2020 : here are the nominees

From 400 submitted titles the jury of the Leipzig Book Fair Prize 2020 just announced the 15 nominees. Among them you will find :

Leif Randt, ALLEGRO PASTELL (Kiepenheuer & Witsch, novel): Allegro Pastell is the story of a seemingly normal love and its transformations. A novel in three phases that begins in the recordbreakingly hot spring of 2018.

Verena Güntner, POWER (Dumont, novel ): A village community, a missing dog, and a quest that transforms. Power is a story about the act of disappearing. „A fascinating parable on the present: absurd, fairy-tale like and radical. A great social novel about power and vileness – and a declaration of war: Things cannot go on as they are.“ – Jan Brandt

Ingo Schlze, THE RIGHTEOUS MURDERER (S. Fischer, novel ): Is the hero of this story an upstanding bibliophile into a reactionary or a revolutionary, a tragic figure or a murderer? Ingo Schulze pulls the rug out from under us in virtuoso fashion. How can a reader and booklover become a right-wing criminal? This is storytelling as its most ingenious and disconcerting.

and from non-fiction:

Julia Voss, HILMA AF KLINT. THE WORLD IN ASTONISHMENT (S. Fischer, art history): A radical force, ahead of her time – Hilma af Klint was the pioneer of abstract painting. In this deeply researched account of Klint’s life, Julia Voss recounts the unconventional life of this exceptional artist, destroying clichés and myths while painting a portrait of an era in which art, as well as politics, was set into turmoil. Rights sold prior to publication: World English (Chicago UP), Sweden (Bonniers), Korea (Pungwoldang)

Michael Martens, WORLD ON FIRE. IVO ANDRIC – A EUROPEAN LIFE (Zsolnay, biography): A writer who celebrated Hitler’s birthday as a diplomat, negotiated arms deliveries with Göring, travelled to Moscow as Stalin’s guest and wrote major literature at night – rarely has there been a more remarkable experience than the life of the writer Ivo Andric (1892–1975). This biography captivates the reader from the first to the last sentence. Rights sold: Bosnia (Buybook), Croatia (Ljevak), Serbia (Laguna)
