Two years ago while travelling to Stockholm to visit publishers and editors, I stumbled over this gem of a book: Ellinor Skagegård’s fascinating account of the life of Fanny Mendelssohn. Sure there had been books on the remarkable Fanny written before but Ellinor’s way of narrating got under my skin. FOR YOU, MUSIC MAY ONLY BE AN ORNAMENT (Leopard Förlag) is a fascinating story about suppressed geniality and the conditions imposed on creative women, as well as Jewish populations, throughout history.

I am thrilled that the German edition was just published by Suhrkamp Insel in Germany – don’t miss it!
